Actually, I think that the ladies who populate what looks sorta like a Punnet Square, look very amazing, Gorgeous, actually. SpecialGorgeous thanks to my ever incredible team of stylists; David Goveia - MUP Magi; John Goodhew for his exacting pre, post and always edit(ed) skills; Damian, Michelle, Laroe, Marissa...You Know What You Do!

Now, while I want you to know, what comes next may be a little controversial. In fact, if you have read this far, let's say that I am surprised somewhat. This little blog has also found a new home. Or web address. I am moving this love letter maker over to a WordPress site. There, I said it! I hope that you are still there, or here with me.

So, for a few more days, when you click on GetMoreGorgeous, you will be pointed here. Only for a few more days though so don't get attached.

... No, hair need not, necessarily, define one, though the for the legions of people for whom it does provide certain identity/definition thereof, it seems as though hair, in fact, may be defining. Alas, the blonding highlights, your manipulated body - it's comportment and composition, the (conscious) choices - or attachments that you utilize to present as you do in the world act contrarily to your "whole heartingly" position that "it is what's inside that defines us". What is inside us are the mechanics of living. Unless you are suggesting that it is bowels, a spleen or even a single kidney that you would prefer on the outside, say dangling from your head, then i see no recourse other than to desist in seeing your hairdresser and make swift and succinct amends with your gastro enterologist tout suite.

Of course, if you would like to contemplate the unknown, the unseen ie., the mind, I am happy to engage in that discussion as well. Be certain though, if we were to wear our minds on the outside, on our heads, we would surely have so little to be attracted to. Thus Hair, as adornment, an expression of thinking, feeling, cognitive and perceiving parts is as good a signifier as to what propels, interests, motivates us as is the entrails of last nights supper.

There are some experiences, I hasten to say that in my own experience that it is more often than not, of clients that make a certain, clear and good impact. I have stopped being startled by what reveals over the course of an hour, instead I marvel at the the conscious and collective vulnerability each of us embodies. I marvel also at the tentative steps each of us are bound to take when approaching hearts and minds. Thank you for revealing both of yours.

Now, as promised, the "readers". I have selected one, The Culture Of Pain/David Morris, for two reasons. First, it is compelling and as such is easy to get through. Mr Morris has been tinkering around with "pain" for what seems to be a long time and this book is comprehensive. I feel it will lead you into reading other pieces, some medical and some esoteric. I err on either side...The second reason for recommending the book is that when I read it I was deeply immersed in pain - the dissemination, that is. And I must admit that I was somewhat blindsided by Morris. I truly believed that he had wire tapped my mind and reached the publisher first. And won. Enjoy it.

Also by Morris, Illness and Culture in the Post Modern Age.

A favourite of mine, as well as a rare find, is On Illness/Virgina Woolf. No need to discuss this until you have digested it.

Lastly, I found great comfort studying with a fellow whose name is Michael Stone. He is a Buddhist practioner and besides trying to bargain with him - I asked if he would mind meditating for me, he and I discussed the story, loss, anger and the constancy of pain. A highlight in our time together was learning Sanskrit. Really!

I hope that your hair is behaving. I hope to see you again.

I took some time off this morning so that I would be able to watch the Kevin Murphy makeover on City Line. I hope that you recognize my disappointment as just that and not as some kind of self centered rant revolving around entitlement.

To the point, then. I am curious as to why there was no mention of the location...of my salon. As requested, I had the salon "camera crew ready". For me this request included three days of extra staffing to paint, hang art, pay extra staff, order flowers, etc., to ensure that the space was in a pristine state - to ensure that the experience for TxxS, Kevin Murphy, Fashion Magazine, CityLine and Lxxx Comm was both pleasant and seamless. My staff, for whom I am at bat for, were on point and ready to welcome the entire crew into navigatespace.

As a startup, any exposure, particularly national and televised, is an invaluable asset. My expectation, while implicit (and perhaps herein lies the problem), that there would be a mention of the "location" has been dashed. As has my confidence.

I am sorry to heave this onto you, though you can be assured that I am going to contact the brand manager and tell him how I feel as well.

I hope that you and I are able to come to a certain acceptance of what has occurred.

The Sweetness Of Thick.

I have no real issue with Thick Hair, in fact I wish I had some. My hair is fine, and when I was young enough to know no better, I had many of them. Hairs, I mean. I had many fine hairs. Perhaps I suffer from Thick Hair Envy, which may get in the way of your getting the Best Advice. Though I doubt that. I don't play that way...

Put a ring on it! That's right, cinch your hair into a pony tail. As far as I can tell, there are only two ways to go with the pony. Either at the base, the nape, or just behind the top crown. If your head feels like it is being "held back", then you are holder of the Thick Hair. Lucky You.

Because I am stickler, I advise, firstly, that you have a shampoo that will cleanse and treat your scalp. And strong, functional fingers (for that salon like massage) as well as a commitment to getting the bottom of things. In this case, the roots. Oftentimes, Thick Hair is plagued with Weight and, unfortunately, Oily Buildup. To improve movement, scalp health, and, dare I say this...volume, it is essential that your scalp is in a good condition. Enough cannot be said about this though I will add that you should be mindful about overwashing. In each case, thin, fine, colour treated, curly, etc., overwashing will present problems of another sort Bottom Line? You want your Thick Hair to be Shiny, Full, Spectacular and Gorgeous.

Conditoner. Yes, I said conditioner. A litany of issues emanate at this level of the "talk". "My hair is so heavy", "Conditioner makes my hair feel greasy", "My hair so Thick that I would have to use a tonne to get through to the ends", "I don't think I need it." Frankly, I am not buying it. Ladies, you need to condition your Lovely Locks. It's simple. With advances in "hair tech" products are available for every hair type, texture and density. Light weight, heavy weight, scent free, sulphate free, paraben clear, UV retardant, moisturizing, healing...The advances that have been made has brought along a new category: Cosmeceutical. The ingredients within this class, in some though not all cases, are closer than ever to a medical grade. Treating your hair as you would your skin is de riguer. It just is and it just fits. Protect your face, protect your hair.

So, now, why condition? It protects your hair from environmental exposure, hot tools, elastics, dogs, maybe you have a cat, I can't know. What I do know is this: conditioning your hair after a shampoo returns the outer layer, the cuticular layer of your hair to a neutral PH. I know you know what that, PH, is. Conditioner will give your hair strength, water, gloss...it will be more managable, you may even find that the combination of the correct shampoo and condtioner may change the way you feel. Just don't over do it. In the context of Thick Hair, be wise, use your product wisely. There is little to no need to "condition" your roots. The mid shafts and ends, however, do need some attention. If your is not colour treated, use a moderate amount form mids to ends, comb through, leave in for a bakers minute and rinse. Voila, you're done. For the Ladies with the coloured hair, well, you need to be thinking about healing, and moisture. In addition to the former prescription, you need to find the appropriate masque and treat yourself, and your hair, especially well - once or week. Soak it up.

These are your maintenance issues. The solutions are user friendly. The outcome is Gorgeous. One more piece and you will have the appropriate arsenal of information.

It's Wednesday. Your hair is a lovely mess. It's a lovely mess because you have been following the advice of Mr or Ms Hair, and you have the ideal cut for your particular brand of Thick Hair. You are not sure if you want Control, or Natural, or Emphatically Natural. In fact, you are not even sure if you prefer Up or Down, or both. Each of you wants Shine. Each of you wants Luxe, and each you of deserves it all. Whether or not you want Slick is another matter...Silicone and water based Styling Products will present you in the Shiniest, Silkiest Hair light. While it is near impossible to tell you what combination or cocktail of Finishing Products to use, I can tell you about Must Haves. You must have a SuperShine Moisturizing Creme. If your hair is textured, you must have an Anti Humidity Spray. If you want extra lift, you must have a Gel Serum - an iridescent version is Hot. Everybody needs Creme For Style because it is modern, light weight and Touchable. Touchable is also a Must Have.

So, here it is. Three fully stocked, more than season's worth, better than a stick in the eye, shelves with the most Luxurious, Essential, Shiny, Silky...I could go on. Dare me!

ORIBE was merchandised (ShoutOut to Brenda and Dana!) on the shelves at navigate on Tuesday afternoon. I am a pussy boy when it comes to retailing products - I have held a belief for a long time (perhaps too long, perhaps too stodgy) that my work, the haircuts that I do, did not require "support". So, shoot me! My ego may be the size of a sweet pea, and I may be in constant defense of its diminutive shape, however...Lawd, Help me! I had not, until recently, until Tuesday in fact, realized that I was getting in the way (your way) of MoreGorgeous.

ORIBE is a Luxe line of Hair care. ORIBE, the man, is, sort of, is actually kind of like my own HairHero. I began selling, timidly at first, though voraciously as the day spilled onwards. One after another, after yet another of the Fabulously Luxurious, Rich, Effective and Smells So Great Product. I am infatuated. Fully.

A Scene

Here we are, David, Alannah, Gaetano (doing Brienne's blow out), Brienne and myself. This photo was taken on Saturday March 13 - I am not apologizing for the delay. It took me a couple of days to digest what really happened, besides Alannah Getting Her Gorgeous!

It is not everyday that a day such as the one that unfolded on Saturday occurs. In fact, the day that has become the highlight of the days spend so far at navigate is now the one to beat. Make up Extraordinaire, David Goviea was on the Scene, giving his vibe, letting his "self" fill the room. He was on hand, with brush and wand and ultra ready to illuminate both Alannah's skin, eyes, and mind. He is a most modern fella. And sits atop the hill that is built of my most favourite people. Working with D is always a pleasure. It is like a deep inhalation of a rich, reminiscent past. He and I have worked, on and off, for over 20 years. Shalom Harlow was a project - and soon thereafter was projected internationally, to become a Global Spectacular Beauty. I bring that experience not to overshadow the many fabulous Beauty Making events that he and I shared but rather to suggest that some highlights are brighter than others.

Alannah, with help from my trusted, tried and mostly exquisite BFF, Brienne, had her already Gorgeous red hair tinted. Brienne and I spoke in tongued code and solved the mystery of the elongated pure tone. Result? Pure magic for Alannah's hair. Not styling is complete without a shoutout to Gaetano whose charm and drop dead smile infected the room like a much desired version of warmth. Later, he and Brienne comingled over a Blow Out. He, sweating as he tugged and smoothed B's hair into to perfect, glossy wefts. Gorgeous. Really Gorgeous.

With thought and care, and lengthy personal consultations - more like lifestyle quizzes, we were able to create a modern, chic shape, tone, and face for a bright, curious, persistent (in all the best ways!), beautiful young woman. My hope is that she has seen and felt the difference "interest" makes.

Kudos to all.

Now, I am not really interested in carving out a blog devoted to me, as such. And, or though, I am rather overwhelmed by the supposed demand, or obligation that this endeavor suggests - at least I imagine that by starting a thing, this thing, I am then accepting the basic principles of what is the nature of a good blog(ger). And here, I would appreciate any and all assistance, even in the guise of constructive criticisms. Really, I would.

I cut hair. That's it. I cut hair, I cut it well and I like it. Sometimes I run into problems. They are rarely huge though they ought to be described as problems nonetheless. Mostly, these problems are people based. Problems emanating from peoples expectations. Like wanting to be a Unicorn. When you grow up. That is a strange, if not pyschopathological problem, especially if the desire to be a Unicorn is still a fantasy past the age of, say, uhm, what age would you say is an appropriate age to have rid oneself of a desire to be a Unicorn? This shouldn't be making sense, and if it is, I apologize. What I am trying to get at is this: I am a hair cutter whose interest in Beauty does not necessarily reflect the average, or higher, proposed averages of the status quo. For this, I consider myself a just a little luckier.

I like Unicorns, the idea of Unicorns as much and perhaps as dearly as most other Unicorn aficionados. In fact, understanding the Unicorn helps me do what I do well.So, from here on, I will be posting - do not know how regularly, or with how much integrity though I will post. About Beauty, Men's Perogatives, Style, Hair, Love and likely Pain, Complaints, Compliments and Therapy.
